The Academy of Fine Arts of Brera, (Italian: Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera) also known as Brera Academy (Accademia di Brera) is a public academic institution located in the city center of Milan. It was founded in 1776 by the Empress Maria Theresa of Austria. Accademia di Brera shares the prestigious location with the Fine Arts Museum Pinacoteca di Brera. Accademia di Brera focuses on teaching and research within the creative arts, (painting, sculpting, graphics, photo, video etc.) and cultural historical disciplines. Under the current Italian regulations (MIUR Ministry of Education), the Brera Academy is included in the university program in the field of the Artistic and Musical Training (AFAM) issuing academic diplomas of 1st level  (equivalent to bachelor degree) and academic diplomas of 2nd level (equivalent to master degree). Within Italy it is the academic institution with the highest rate of internationalization (33% international students). Academy of Brera  has about 4800 students including over 1000 foreigners from 60 different  nations. Brera Alumni were painter Lucio Fontana and Nobel winner Dario Fo.
